The King of Beers’ mighty Clydesdales are ready to reclaim their Super Bowl commercial throne.
The iconic horses are set to hit the field and take center stage when they are featured in a new Budweiser commercial, which debuts on Feb. 11, titled “Old School Delivery.”
The 60-second spot begins with a group of six horses galloping to the rescue to save a small town that loses power during a snowstorm, as the opening notes of The Band’s classic song “The Weight” plays in the background.
The horses nudge their owner to “do it the old school way” and deliver jugs of beer to a bar in need via a carriage led by their trusty steeds.
As the storm worsens and the horses lose their way, a Labrador comes to their rescue and leads them safely to their destination.
As the delivery guy arrives he apologizes to the bar patrons, saying “Sorry I’m late.”
The words “Delivering Since 1876″ and “This Bud’s For You” flash across the screen to end the spot.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and Emmy Award-winning commercial director Henry Alex Rubin, 48, directed the commercial.
“Budweiser has been synonymous with the Super Bowl for decades and the broadcast continues to be a very special moment for our brand and a core pillar of our advertising strategy,” Kristina Punwani, head of marketing at Budweiser USA, said in a statement. “We knew there was no better way to show Budweiser’s continued commitment to delivering for its fans than with our biggest celebrities.”
The Budweiser Clydesdales first debuted in a television advertisement at the Super Bowl Since in 1975.
Since then the horses have become synonymous with the brand. During Super Bowl 57, the ponies only got a few seconds of airtime appearing in the “Six Degrees of Budweiser.” The year before, the creatures of infinite beauty were featured in “A Clydesdale’s Journey,” and followed an injured horse as it struggled to get back to prized prancing status.
Back in 2014, Budweiser proved that dogs and horses can be best friends as an adorable Labrador puppy ran away from home multiple times to spend time with his friend in the “Puppy Love” commercial set to the “Passenger” hit “Let Her Go.”
The message that “we deliver more than just beer” is something the brewing giant wanted to share “with all of America,” said Punwani, during an interview, according to Variety.
“The Clydesdales are always something that’s up for discussion and up for consideration,” she added. “And this year, it just felt like the right moment to bring them back.”
The Super Bowl LVIII kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will take place at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium, located on the Las Vegas strip in Paradise, Nevada.
