Bennett will become an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers over the next 48 hours. Yahoo reports that four teams have the salary cap space or the trade exception necessary to absorb his $5.8 million contract: the Trail Blazers, Cavaliers, 76ers and Jazz.

Two Blazers assistant coaches — Jay Triano and David Vanterpool — were with Bennett on the Canadian national team this summer, and Yahoo reports he did well under their tutelage.

The 6-foot-8 Bennett has started only three games in his two NBA seasons, the first of which was spent with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before last season, the Cavaliers shipped him to Minnesota as part of the three-team deal that sent Kevin Love to Cleveland. Bennett has averaged 4.7 points and 3.4 minutes in 14.3 minutes per game and is widely considered as one of the worst No. 1 draft picks in recent memory.
