Hercules, Sir Elton John is a singer, pianist, and composer from the United Kingdom. The Rocket Man was nicknamed after his 1972 hit single of the same name. He was a successful composer for musical films and theatre, including The Lion King. On March 25, 1947, he was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, the only child of Sheila Eileen. Elton joined the Royal Air Force in 1944 to please his father.

Elton received a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music when he was 11 years old, but he dropped out. In 1967, John met Bernie Taupin and formed a songwriting partnership. He debuted with the single “I’ve Been Loving You” and his debut album, “Your Song.” The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 in the United States and number five on the UK Albums Chart.

In 1972, Elton gave a performance at the Royal Variety Performance. He went on to become one of the most successful musicians of all time. He received five Grammys, two Academy Awards, five Brits, and two Golden Globes.
