Maryland high school football playoff projections

UPDATED: These projectoins now reflect the official playoff seedings announced by the MPSAA.

Week 10 of the Maryland high school football season will wrap up Saturday afternoon, but with Friday’s games in the books, the playoff picture is coming into focus.

Most of the region playoff quartets are set, but a handful of teams still have a change to improve their seeding or make the field when they close out the regular season Saturday.

Below are the AllMetSports projections for the field after Friday's games. See the full Friday scoreboard here.

Important disclaimer: These projections are unofficial. But we did uses calculators, pencils and plenty of erasers.

The Maryland Secondary Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association will release the official playoff pairings later this weekend.

MARYLAND 4A WEST

1. Quince Orchard (9-1)

Noteworthy

• Quince Orchard locked up the top spot with its win over Paint Branch Friday and Richard Montgomery will host an opening-round playoff game after beating Randallstown to close the regular season.

• Northwest held onto the third seed ahead of Blair as a result of Whitman’s victory over Churchill on Saturday.

MARYLAND 4A SOUTH

• C.H. Flowers overtook DuVal for the third seed after it beat Laurel and DuVal lost to Oxon Hill Saturday.

• Wise eliminated Suitland (4-6) from playoff contention with its 37-0 win over the Rams Saturday. The Pumas had already locked up the top seed in the region for the second year in a row.

MARYLAND 4A EAST

1. Old Mill (10-0)

2. Annapolis (9-1)

3. North Point (9-1)

4. Broadneck (7-3)

First-round matchups

No. 4 Broadneck at No. 1 Old Mill

No. 3 North Point at No. 2 Annapolis

Noteworthy

• Old Mill secured the top seed in the region with its win over Annapolis Friday night.

Old Mill rallies late to edge Annapolis, cap another unbeaten regular season

• Broadneck held off Arundel for the final playoff spot with its win over Southern Friday.

MARYLAND 4A NORTH

• Whether Parkville or Mervo gets the final playoff spot will be determined by Saturday’s results.

• Though Oxon Hill and Potomac (Md) have yet to play their regular season finales, both clinched home games in the opening round of the playoffs based on Friday’s results.

• Rockville passed Wheaton (4-6) for the final spot Friday when it beat Magruder and Wheaton lost to Watkins Mill (4-6).

MARYLAND 3A WEST

Noteworthy

• With the help of Thomas Johnson's win over Frederick on Saturday, Linganore moved passed Seneca Valley for the final spot in the region. It's the second time in three years that the Screaming Eagles will be left out of the playoff field despite an 8-win season.

• River Hill took the final playoff spot after it beat Mount Hebron and Atholton (6-4) lost to Howard on Friday.

• Patuxent finished tied with Calvert in playoff points, but grabbed the top seed based on its regular-season win over the Cavaliers.

• Gwynn Park’s win over Friendly Friday, combined with Lackey’s loss to Calvert, allowed the Yellow Jackets to move into the third seed.
