Richard L. Bernal, OJ was an economist and diplomat from Jamaica who passed away on January 4, 2023. From 1991 to 2001, Bernal was Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States. At the same time, he was Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States. Bernal was the Pro Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs at the University of the West Indies (UWI) as of March 2016.
Bernal was an Order of Jamaica member. He was appointed Professor of Practice (PoP) at UWI in 2018 to teach international economic policy. Bernal was a member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s Leadership Council. Additionally, he served on the Laspau Board of Directors at Harvard University.
Bernal attended the School of Advanced International Studies, The New School for Social Research (NSSR), and the University of the West Indies while he was in school. Baltimore, Maryland-based Johns Hopkins University. He had a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, a Master of International Public Policy (M.I.P.P.), a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and a Master of Arts (M.A.).
