As the band’s drummer and one of the trio of lead singers, American musician Mark Lavon “Levon” Helm became well-known. On May 26, 1940, he discovered he was born in Elaine, Arkansas.
The Band inducted him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. A day, April 19, 2012, saw Helm’s passing. In April 1969, Helm met singer-songwriter Libby Titus when the band was in the middle of recording their second album.
Amy Helm was born on December 3, 1970, following a protracted relationship. At occasions like the Midnight Rambles, Amy performed as Ollabelle with her father’s band.
In 1975, Helm met Sandra Dodd in California while still seeing Titus. On September 7, 1981, Helm and Dodd got married. They didn’t have children together at the time.
Why did Levon Helm quit the Band?
After Manuel committed suicide by hanging in 1986, the Band carried on for a while, but Danko’s death from heart failure in 1999 put an end to the Band for good.
Helm was then battling throat cancer which is why he quit the band.
